FIRTH OF CLYDE

Kip Regatta 9th & 10th May 2020

Marc Turner @ PFM Pictures

The first ‘Major’ of the Scottish racing calendar, Kip Regatta takes to the Clyde from Kip Marina in May each year, offering the perfect start to sailing in Scotland while fine tuning your boat and crew for the forthcoming season.

Attracting over 60 boats in 2019 and from as far afield as England, Wales and Ireland, the 2-day event enjoyed wonderful racing weather for the fleet, with Debbie Aitken’s RC35 ‘Animal’ celebrating in the sunshine after taking the coveted Overall Winner’s trophy. With race management from Royal Western Yacht Club under commodore Ross Lang and his team, headed by Principle Race Officer Johnny Watson, excellent racing took place throughout the weekend with closely fought contests across the classes including IRC1 & 4, RC35, CYCA 3 & 5, Sigma 33 and International Etchells. Famous for its Scottish hospitality, the ‘après sailing’ events are always extremely popular at Kip Regatta and the Saturday night Shore Party in The Chartroom saw the biggest attendance yet as crews and spectators enjoyed an incredible atmosphere thanks to the live music from Jimallywhy into the small hours plus the popular Street Food being served on the patio. Each year Kip Regatta attracts a growing number of first-time entries and 2020 - as the Scottish Government’s Year of Coast & Waters - is the perfect year to ‘do the West Coast’ and enjoy the world-class sailing waters of the Clyde for yourself. Kip Regatta 2020 takes place on the 9th & 10th May – for entry forms or more information email hgairns@kipmarina.co.uk , visit www.kipmarina.co.uk or call 01475 520919. www.kipmarina.co.uk
